length of chain

I designed this sterling silver cross with graceful, hand-carved, forget-me-not flowers and leaves on a wood-grain textured background. It is one and three-eighth inches long and a half inch wide. (Three centimeters and three millimeters long and one centimeter and two millimeters wide.) The bail is included in the length. It comes on a fine but strong sterling silver, flat cable chain in 16, 18, or 20 inches.

I first sketched this design on graph paper, transferred it to jeweler's wax, and then spent many hours carving and refining the design in wax. When the wax was carved to my satisfaction, I sent it to a caster, who made a mold of my design and cast it in silver for me. I darken and then polish each piece myself, so the details can be seen clearly.

Care Instructions

This necklace is solid sterling silver, which will tarnish if not regularly cared for. To prevent tarnish, don't let it get sweaty or oily and don't swim in it or wear it in the shower. Clean it with dish soap as needed. When it is clean and dry, rub it gently with the polishing cloth I have enclosed.

If it does tarnish, cleaning it and rubbing it with the cloth will restore its brightness. If it is still darker than you like, especially the chain, I have found that rubbing it gently with a paste of baking soda restores the sparkle. After cleaning it that way, rinse well, dry it well, and give it a final rub with the polishing cloth.

When it is not being worn, storing it out of light in an air tight plastic bag, such as a Zip-loc will help keep it bright. I have included a small bag that you may use.
